Why train to be a teacher at St John’s?
At St. John’s we are proud to be a lead provider of ITT as part of the Carmel Teacher Training Partnership (CTTP). As an ITT trainee with us you will be at the heart of school life in a Catholic setting, learning from outstanding practitioners, who will help you to develop your career as a teacher and encourage you to be the best that you can be.
Our mentors are highly skilled at developing ‘Outstanding’ teachers and ensuring you are part of our unique ‘Learning Community Guided by Gospel Values’. By choosing to train at St. John’s, you will experience first-hand, not only how we as educators support and challenge our students to make progress across our broad and exciting curriculum, but also how we nourish and guide each individual on their spiritual journey, developing their pastoral and social skills.
We are privileged to have been at the forefront of developing and leading areas of CTTP provision and relish the opportunity to develop future ‘Outstanding’ practitioners.
Internships
As a lead school we provide undergraduate students currently studying STEM or MFL subjects the opportunity to try out teaching over a 3-week period in the Summer term. Interns receive £300-£400 per week for the internship and are allocated to Science, Maths, Computing and MFL departments. The internship programme is a fabulous opportunity for future ITT trainees to experience life at St. John’s, to meet our students, staff and mentors and to experience school life to ascertain whether teaching is the career for you.

SKE (Subject Knowledge Enhancement)
Working in collaboration with Carmel Teacher Training Partnership we have also created and offer the SKE course for future ITT students who want to boost their subject knowledge, prior to starting the ITT course. As co-designers of the SKE course, mentors and leaders are well placed to ensure you are fully prepared for your ITT year on completion of this 8-12 week funded DfE course.
