At St John’s our school uniform is very important as it is a visible sign that all students are members of our learning community.  Our uniform policy plays a vital role in fostering an inclusive atmosphere of mutual care and respect among students, and it helps diminish outward signs of socioeconomic differences so that students can focus on learning.

By having all students wear the same uniform, we aim to cultivate a shared identity grounded in our core values of respect, responsibility, and confidence. When students put on their St John’s uniforms, they are becoming our ambassadors, committing to their personal academic development and to upholding our high standards and virtues.

Our uniform connects each student to one another and transforms them from individuals into valued members of St John’s Learning Community.

Our school uniform can be purchased online from Elizabeth’s Embroidery (www.elizabethsembroidery.com) or from Cre8ive Graphics Ltd at 12 Peel Street, Bishop Auckland, DL14 7LF.  Families are able to visit the shop and try on items before purchasing uniform.

All students in Years 7–11 wear maroon blazers and a tie with the St John’s badge on.  Each year group has a specific colour stripe on their tie and this remains their coloured tie for 5 years.  For September 2024 the tie colours are:

  • Year 7    Lilac
  • Year 8    Green
  • Year 9    Orange
  • Year 10  Turquoise
  • Year 11  Maroon

Students must bring outdoor coats for outside use at breaktimes and lunchtimes.  Coats, scarves, hats or hoodies must be stored in lockers or bags when students are inside the building.

Piercings, jewellery, false eyelashes and false nails are not permitted.

Please see our uniform letter and uniform policy.
