Today, our school community at St John’s Catholic School & Sixth Form College, Bishop Auckland, came together for one of the most treasured events of our Advent season—our annual Christmas liturgies, held at the beautiful St Mary’s Church.

This year, each service was thoughtfully centred on the powerful Advent theme of hope—a message that resonates deeply as we journey toward Christmas. It was truly uplifting to see our students reflect on the real meaning of the season and participate so respectfully throughout the day.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Incredible Choir

A very special mention must go to our wonderful St John’s Choir, who once again amazed us with their talent and dedication.

After performing brilliantly in last night’s Christmas Concert, they continued their hard work and gave stunning performances in all five liturgies today. Their voices brought warmth, joy, and reverence to every service, helping make this day even more memorable.

Gratitude to Staff Who Made the Day Possible

We are also incredibly grateful to the staff who made today’s liturgies such a success:

  • Miss Bell and Miss Liddle – for leading the music with such skill and enthusiasm
  • Our Chaplain, Emma – for organising and leading the liturgies with care, creativity, and spiritual guidance

Their dedication ensures that this annual tradition continues to be a meaningful and faith-filled experience for our entire school community.

A Beautiful Start to the Christmas Season

As we continue through Advent, today’s liturgies have reminded us of the importance of hope, community, and faith. We are proud of our students for the way they embraced the services and grateful to everyone who helped create such a special day.

From all of us at St John’s, Bishop Auckland, we wish you a peaceful and hope-filled remainder of Advent.
