Our Year 7 students from St John’s Catholic School & Sixth Form College, Bishop Auckland, enjoyed an unforgettable day on Friday when Miss Bell and Miss Liddle took them to the world premiere of Horrible Histories: The Concert at the Darlington Hippodrome. It was a brilliant opportunity for our young historians to see their classroom learning brought to life on stage.
A Lively Journey Through the Ages
The St John’s group were fully immersed in the fun from the moment the show began. Guided by William Shakespeare himself, they travelled through key moments in history, meeting a host of famous figures including:
- Queen Elizabeth I
- Henry VIII
- Boudica
- Cleopatra
- and many more favourites from the hit BBC series Horrible Histories
The performance encouraged a lively Elizabethan‑style audience atmosphere, with plenty of singing, clapping, cheering, booing — and even some playful heckling. Our students embraced the experience with enthusiasm and had a fantastic time.
St John’s Students Praised for Exemplary Behaviour
We are incredibly proud of how our St John’s students represented the school. Their behaviour throughout the visit was excellent and was praised by theatre staff — a lovely acknowledgement of the maturity, respect and enthusiasm our young people consistently show.
A Memorable and Enriching Learning Experience
Educational visits like this are an important part of life at St John’s. They enrich learning, spark curiosity and help students build a deeper understanding of the subjects they study. Our Year 7 group returned full of excitement and eager to talk about their favourite moments from the show.
Well done, Year 7 — and thank you to Miss Bell and Miss Liddle for organising such a wonderful experience.
We look forward to offering many more exciting opportunities for St John’s students throughout the year.
