St John’s Year 7 Students Enjoy Inspiring Visit from Author Helen Rutter
Students in Year 7 at St John’s Catholic School and Sixth Form College, Bishop Auckland, were delighted to welcome author Helen Rutter to school for a special visit celebrating reading and literature. At the start of Year 7, every student was gifted a copy of The Game Changers, a powerful book exploring friendship, resilience, self-belief and the courage to be yourself. The story reflects many aspects of students’ own journeys at St John’s, making it a particularly meaningful read for the school community.
St John’s Sixth Form Students Contribute to Groundbreaking Tuberculosis Research
Students from St John’s Catholic School and Sixth Form College are continuing their involvement in an innovative tuberculosis (TB) drug discovery project alongside researchers from Durham University and Newcastle University. Year 12 Chemistry students have been using advanced computer-aided design techniques to create potential drug molecules and investigate how effectively they interact with proteins linked to tuberculosis. As part of the project, students have also visited Durham University’s Chemistry laboratories, where they synthesised their designs and prepared them for further scientific analysis.

Sixty-five Year 11 students from St John's Catholic School and Sixth Form, Bishop Auckland, enjoyed a fantastic educational visit to Beamish Museum, where they took part in an engaging An Inspector Calls carousel of activities. Set within Beamish's immersive historical environment, the trip provided students with a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of J.B. Priestley’s much-loved play. Through a range of interactive activities, students explored the characters, themes and social context that underpin An Inspector Calls, helping to bring their GCSE English Literature studies to life.

Year 7 Students Explore High Force on Geography Field Trip
Year 7 students at St John’s Catholic School and Sixth Form in Bishop Auckland have enjoyed their first Geography field trip, with every tutor group visiting High Force in Middleton-in-Teesdale over the past month. The educational visits gave students the opportunity to learn more about one of the region’s most famous natural landmarks while developing their understanding of waterfalls, rock formations and the surrounding landscape.
