St John’s Catholic School & Sixth Form College in Bishop Auckland is celebrating another fantastic sporting achievement after an impressive performance at the local round of the National Schools Badminton Competition. For the fifth year in a row, our students have secured their place in the Regional Finals, demonstrating the strength, consistency and commitment of sport at St John’s.
Four Teams Represent St John’s With Pride
Four dedicated teams travelled to compete, all of whom are regular participants in our popular lunchtime and after‑school badminton clubs. Their hard work and enthusiasm were clear to see throughout the tournament.
KS4 Girls: Competing a Year Up Against Tough Opponents
Our KS4 girls faced particularly strong competition this year, playing up a year against teams from Durham Johnston and Durham High School. Despite the challenge, they performed extremely well and showed real determination. They will return next year ready to build on this experience.
Two Teams Crowned Group Winners
Both the KS4 boys and KS3 boys teams excelled on the day, winning their groups and earning a well‑deserved place in the Regional Finals in York this March. This outstanding achievement reflects their dedication to training and the high level of coaching and support offered at St John’s.
Celebrating Commitment, Teamwork and Sporting Excellence
We are incredibly proud of all the students who took part. Their sportsmanship, resilience and commitment to representing St John’s with pride were evident throughout the event.
St John’s continues to offer a wide range of extra‑curricular sports, and badminton is one of the most popular activities for our students. Regular participation in clubs, strong teamwork and a love of sport have played a key role in our ongoing success at regional and national levels.
Looking Ahead to the Regional Finals
We now look forward to supporting our KS4 and KS3 boys as they prepare for the Regional Finals in York. We know they will continue to work hard and represent St John’s with the same outstanding attitude they showed in the local round.
Well done to everyone involved — players, coaches and supporters. We are excited to see what March brings!
