At St John’s School in Bishop Auckland, we believe that education stretches far beyond the classroom. While academic learning is essential, enrichment plays a vital role in helping students grow, explore and thrive. It allows young people to discover new interests, develop practical skills and gain experiences that build confidence and character.
Enrichment encourages creativity, critical thinking and a love of learning — but it also supports students’ social and emotional development. By providing meaningful opportunities outside of the traditional curriculum, we help every child uncover their strengths and reach their full potential.
A Wide Range of Opportunities Every Week
We are proud to offer a broad programme of lunchtime and after‑school clubs throughout the year, giving students plenty of choice and the freedom to follow their passions. Whether they enjoy sport, the arts, technology, reading or simply trying something new, there is always something exciting happening at St John’s.
This term, we have taken enrichment even further by introducing brand-new clubs, expanding the variety of activities available to our students.
New Clubs This Term
Chinese Culture Club – Wednesdays (Lunchtime)
Our new Chinese Culture Club has already sparked great interest. Taking place every Wednesday lunchtime, students can explore Chinese traditions, language, festivals and customs. It’s a fantastic opportunity to broaden cultural understanding and develop global awareness in a fun, interactive way.
Tech Deck Club – Thursdays (After School in HU8)
Another exciting addition is our Tech Deck club, focused on the world of finger skateboarding. Students can learn tricks, design their own setups and enjoy a relaxed, creative environment. This after‑school club runs every Thursday in HU8 and is proving especially popular with those who enjoy hands‑on activities and developing fine motor skills.
A Firm Favourite: Friday Karaoke Club
Of course, our enrichment programme wouldn’t be complete without the ever‑popular Friday Karaoke Club. Week after week, it remains our most well‑attended activity — and with good reason.
It’s wonderful to see so many students stepping up to the microphone, singing their favourite songs and even taking to the dance floor. The atmosphere is always full of energy and positivity, and it’s fantastic to watch students grow in confidence and support one another.
Enrichment That Makes a Difference
At St John’s, enrichment is more than just a timetable of clubs — it is an important part of who we are as a school community. These activities help our students:
- Build self‑confidence
- Make new friends
- Discover new interests and talents
- Develop teamwork and communication skills
- Connect with staff and peers in new ways
We’re delighted to see so many students embracing the opportunities on offer, and we look forward to continuing to grow and refine our enrichment programme throughout the year.
