We couldn’t be more proud of our fantastic choir, who performed on stage at The Glasshouse ICM as part of the final of the North East Secondary School Choir of the Year Competition. It was an unforgettable experience for our students, who rose to the occasion with confidence, teamwork, and true musical spirit.
Whilst they weren’t winners this time, our choir performed beautifully and with real professionalism, showcasing the hard work they have put into rehearsals over the past months. The judging panel praised them for their strong sense of ensemble and impressive ability to handle some tricky three‑part harmonies—a remarkable achievement for a school choir performing on a professional stage.
A Celebration of Music and Community
Travelling to Newcastle and stepping onto the Glasshouse stage was a moment our students will treasure. The event brought together choirs from across the North East, giving young singers the opportunity to perform, learn from others, and celebrate the joy that comes from making music together.
Our students represented St John’s with maturity, enthusiasm, and pride. Their focus, commitment, and love for singing were clear from the very first note, and it was wonderful to see them embrace the experience with such confidence.
Congratulations to Carmel College
We would like to offer a huge congratulations to Carmel College Choir, who were crowned winners with their lively & Juliet medley. Their performance was full of energy and creativity, and our students thoroughly enjoyed watching the other choirs and picking up ideas for future repertoire.
A Performance to Be Proud Of
Although the trophy wasn’t ours this year, what our choir achieved is something far more meaningful:
- They performed on a professional stage with confidence.
- They demonstrated musicality, teamwork, and resilience.
- They represented St John’s brilliantly—both on stage and behind the scenes.
Every student involved should feel incredibly proud of what they accomplished. Their dedication, courage, and passion for singing were evident throughout the day.
Looking Ahead
This competition has inspired our young musicians and strengthened their determination to keep developing as a choir. We look forward to building on this experience, exploring new repertoire, and returning with even more confidence in the future.
A huge well done to every student who took part, and heartfelt thanks to the staff, families, and supporters who continue to encourage and champion our choir.
Here’s to many more exciting musical moments ahead for St John’s Catholic School & Sixth Form College.
