Just before half term, a group of our talented Performing Arts students – including members of our school choir and the Little Shop of Horrors cast – enjoyed a spectacular trip to the Sunderland Empire to see the award‑winning Matilda the Musical.
The performance was nothing short of extraordinary. Clever, funny, powerful and heart‑warming, the show captivated everyone from start to finish. For many of our staff and students, the evening held an extra special meaning, especially for Mrs Rose and several of our Sixth Formers, who performed Matilda the Musical as our very own school production back in 2022. Watching the story come to life on a grand stage was a wonderful reminder of the magic they created together just a few years ago.
Celebrating the Power of Theatre and the Arts
Trips like this highlight why the Performing Arts play such an important role in our school community. They:
- Inspire creativity
- Build confidence and teamwork
- Show students what is possible in professional theatre
- Deepen appreciation for music, drama and storytelling
The evening was a fantastic celebration of the arts and a brilliant opportunity for students to see industry‑standard performance up close. Experiences like these help nurture the next generation of artists, performers and creative thinkers.
A Night to Remember
Our students represented St John’s beautifully, showing enthusiasm, respect and a genuine passion for the performing arts throughout the visit. It was a joyful reminder of how live theatre can spark imagination, strengthen connections and create unforgettable memories.
We look forward to many more opportunities to enrich our students’ creative journeys.
