St John’s Catholic School and Sixth Form is proud to celebrate the first of our Year 7 Auckland Project visits, with 7A setting an excellent example during their recent trip to Auckland Palace.

The students demonstrated outstanding conduct throughout the visit and fully immersed themselves in the “Awful Auckland” experience, where they explored the more challenging and not‑so‑pleasant aspects of Bishop Auckland’s history. This engaging approach allowed students to deepen their understanding of the past in a memorable and meaningful way.

Bringing History to Life

Following the visit, students brought their learning to life by creating their own comic strips, showcasing both creativity and understanding of what they had explored during the day. Their enthusiasm and engagement reflected a strong commitment to learning beyond the classroom.

A First of Many Year 7 Opportunities

This visit marks the first of our Year 7 trips to the Auckland Project. Over the next seven weeks, each tutor group will have the opportunity to take part in the same experience. We hope future groups engage with the opportunity as positively as 7A did on this visit.

Excellent Ambassadors for St John’s

Well done to 7A for representing St John’s Catholic School and Sixth Form so brilliantly. Miss Heads and Miss Giblin were extremely proud of the group, praising students for being such great ambassadors for the school.

Experiences like these play an important role in enriching learning and building confidence, and we look forward to seeing more Year 7 students take part in the Auckland Project over the coming weeks.
