Year 7 pupils from St John’s Catholic School and Sixth Form College in Bishop Auckland recently enjoyed a valuable learning experience as part of their Geography studies, taking part in a visit to The Auckland Project.
Mrs Swinbank and Miss Allaway accompanied class 7M on Friday’s visit, which linked directly to their current topic on Urban Regeneration. The pupils had the opportunity to bring their classroom learning to life by visiting Auckland Tower, Auckland Palace and the Faith Museum.
During the visit, pupils explored why towns such as Bishop Auckland may need regeneration and learned about the role charities like The Auckland Project play in supporting and revitalising communities. The class discussed their own ideas about how they would work to regenerate Bishop Auckland, encouraging thoughtful discussion and engagement.
A particular highlight for many pupils was examining artefacts in the Faith Museum and discussing where they might have come from. This activity helped deepen pupils’ understanding while developing curiosity and critical thinking skills.
The pupils’ conduct throughout the visit was excellent. 7M were praised for their behaviour, their thoughtful contributions and for being great ambassadors for St John’s.
This week, it will be the turn of class 7J to take part in the Auckland Project visit, continuing this valuable learning opportunity for Year 7 pupils.
