Students in Year 7 at St John’s Catholic School and Sixth Form College, Bishop Auckland, were delighted to welcome author Helen Rutter to school for a special visit celebrating reading and literature.

At the start of Year 7, every student was gifted a copy of The Game Changers, a powerful book exploring friendship, resilience, self-belief and the courage to be yourself. The story reflects many aspects of students’ own journeys at St John’s, making it a particularly meaningful read for the school community.

During her visit, students had the exciting opportunity to bring their books back into school for Helen to sign. She generously signed more than 200 copies, creating a memorable experience for young readers.

Year 7 students were brilliant throughout the visit, asking thoughtful, interesting and insightful questions about Helen’s writing, her inspiration and life as an author. Their enthusiasm for reading and confidence when engaging with a published author were clear to see.

The event provided a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the impact of reading and gave students a valuable insight into the work of a successful author.

A huge thank you to Helen Rutter for taking the time to meet our students, sign their books and help make reading such a memorable experience.
