Students from St John's Catholic School and Sixth Form College, Bishop Auckland, have enjoyed a successful start to the sporting season, with impressive performances in both netball and football fixtures.

On Tuesday afternoon, the school's Year 8 netball team, two Year 9 teams and the Year 10 team took to the court for a series of matches against Whitworth and Sedgefield.

The afternoon was filled with goals, victories and outstanding examples of teamwork and sportsmanship. Throughout the matches, the girls represented the school brilliantly, demonstrating determination, resilience and unwavering support for one another. Their positive attitude and commitment were evident in every game, making them a credit to the school.

It has also been an encouraging start to the season for the Year 9 football team, who recorded an impressive 5-1 victory over Whitworth Park last week.

Several strong performances helped secure the win, with the team displaying an excellent attitude and a winning mindset throughout the match. A special mention goes to Thea Pailin, who was named Player of the Match for the second time this week for the school and scored two goals in the victory.

The Year 9 team will be back in action this week as they face King James School in both cup and league fixtures, aiming to continue their strong run of form.

The school would also like to thank JT Dove Bishop Auckland, sponsors of the Year 9 football shirts this season, for their valued support.

The excellent efforts, teamwork and sporting attitude shown across both netball and football highlight another positive chapter in school sport at St John's, with students continuing to represent the school with pride both on and off the field.
